Maybe it's the sense of danger that appeals to me. Philadephia is too civilized for my taste/'

Bickham frowned. Lewis as a permanent resident didn't meet with his approval. He had a feeling the man was a troublemaker. "If you're gonna settle in my town, then you gotta abide by my laws. All that money you got doesn't impress me. You can't buy your way out of my jail."

Heading for the door, Raymond grinned to himself and called over his shoulder, "Whatever you say, Sheriff."

Raymond firmly believed that for the right price, any man was for sale. And with that in mind, he hurried to the Branding Iron to see the proprietor. Now that he had decided to remain in San Antonio, he needed to establish a business. He'd offer the owner a decent price for the saloon, but if he refused to part with it, he'd simply keep upping the bid until the man agreed to sell. Owning a saloon appealed to Raymond, for he liked barrooms and in Philadelphia he had frequented them often.

Raymond was sure that the Branding Iron's proprietor could be persuaded to sell. He had learned from past experiences that he could buy whatever he wanted. The Branding Iron had a top price, but with his riches, meeting it would pose no hardship.
